Confirmed changes in serverside update

Over the weekend there were several changes made serverside to Pokémon go. What this means is that you will not need to update the app on your phone, as the game will pull the new changes down from the server whenever you are playing Pokémon Go.

Changes to Pokémon Moves

The following set of moves have been confirmed as changed as per an update to the master game file which contains information on all the Pokémon. We currently believe that these moves will only be changes on new Pokémon that you catch and wont effect ones you currently have. We also know that you can’t currently catch Mew, however it’s files are in the game. Most likely Niantic we’re doing some internal testing and balancing for when we do get to catch Mew.

Potion Drop Rates Increased

This one wasn’t a game file change, but was confirmed by people observing and testing the theory. Many users have reported that they are getting more potions from Pokéstops.

Regional Pokémon Spawn Rate Increased

Many trainers were seeing more and more of the region specific Pokémon spawning. Players in the USA and Australia first noticed this and it was confirmed when UK players we’re out and about and were able to catch many more Mr Mimes.

Dodging Change

Based on changes to one of the master game files it looks like you will now still take 25% of the damage, even if you successfully dodge an attack. This should make defending gyms a little bit easier for people.

Faster Egg Hatching

Trainers were also reporting that they were finding updates to the distance travelled on Eggs updating more often giving players faster egg hatching. Previously the distance travelled would update at an interval of around 3-5 minutes meaning if you went around a bend or corner the game would only track the straight line from A to B. Now, people are reporting that the distance travelled is being updated in as little as 12 seconds meaning that you should get a lot more registered when out and about.

Rare Pokémon Spawn Rate Increased

As well as an increase in the region specific Pokémon spawning, it appears that the rare Pokémon spawn rate has also been increased. Players from all across the world are reporting that while out and about they are seeing many more rare Pokémon. This doesn’t mean that the Pokémon aren’t still running from them!

Update coming soon?

The last update that was released for Pokémon Go was released on the 8th August. Niantic have stated that they plan to update the game every two weeks, so hopefully we should see something this week!
